Business Studies Student at Bowling Green Technical College
"I cannot give enough thanks and praise for the help and support that I have received from the faculty and staff from this college."
My Journey
My name is Maurita Barton and I was an employee with General Electric and A. O. Smith for a combined thirty-four years. Having only a little over three years to reach my retirement, the dreaded announcement came that our plant was closing due to the economy at the end of 2008. Needless to say, being the single source of income in my household, I had mixed emotions: some of fear and others of great excitement. Some may view this as a colossal stressor in their life, but I viewed this as a new beginning. When I graduated from high school, I attended Western Kentucky University for a mere one and a half years. I have always longed to go back to school and obtain my degree. Now, with the opportunity to achieve a lifelong dream, was the decision where to further my education. Researching many opportunities, I made Bowling Green Technical College my choice. Unquestionable, going back to school at the age of 56 was a daunting task. I cannot give enough thanks and praise for the help and support that I have received from the faculty and staff of this college.
